Someone filed my taxes without me knowing

If you suspect that your tax return being filed without your knowledge is due to identity theft, then take a look at the following TurboTax help article to learn what you should do.

If you prepared a tax return and it is being rejected when you e-file because of duplicate use of your SSN, you can file your return by mail and the IRS will sort out the duplicate use of your SSN.  Print, sign and date your return in ink, and mail it in.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

And to prevent this from happening again, get a six digit IP PIN from the IRS.
