You will not be able to get Live help until Tuesday since this is a holiday weekend. You say you are the non-custodial parent. Did you indicate in My Info that you have a signed agreement with the other parent? And do you in fact have a signed form 8332 that allows you to claim the children for the child tax credit on your tax return? If so, then you can get the child tax credit and stimulus money for claiming them.
You can check for the child-related credits here:
Look at your 2020 Form 1040 to see the child-related credits you received
PREVIEW 1040
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901539-how-do-i-preview-my-turbotax-online-return-before-filing
Child Tax Credit line 19
Credit for Other Dependents line 19
Earned Income Credit line 27
Additional Child Tax Credit line 28
Child and Dependent Care Credit line 31 (from line 13 of Schedule 3)
Did you use the recovery rebate credit to get stimulus money for yourself and the two children? What is on line 30 of your Form 1040?
What other income did you have besides unemployment? Did you have other income with tax withheld?
We do not have enough information to guess if the refund amount you think you see is correct, but that is a pretty big refund, and I, too, am skeptical.
So my refund was in error for that Amount. Its been changed to 2452 for federal and 800 for state.. Got the IRS letter saying they made a change go my state to $0 which I expected being I had $0 with held on my state taxes. My federal was only $65 but I did file for the recovery rebate. I also havnt received any of the golden cali stimulus checks. I also need to file 2019 2018 2017 prior tax returns. But I'm not sure if I need to file amended return.
I also got billed for $250 for the services. But i already got a payment completed receipt on my payment details.
@Perkinsavagery Okay it sounds like your issues with your 2020 return were resolved. As for 2017, 2018 and 2019----you are too late to get a refund for a 2017 return unless you had an extension for 2017 which you would have had to request in 2018. If you did not get an extension for 2017 you have forfeited any 2017 refund---but you still owe if the return shows tax due.
It is not too late to get refunds for 2018 or 2019---but you do not amend. Amending is only done for returns that have been filed and fully processed. If you did not file those returns, then do not click on anything that says amend.
PAST YEAR RETURNS
Each tax year has to be filed separately using the forms for the specific tax year. They cannot be combined in any way--do not even put them in the same envelope when you mail them. Software for past years is available back to 2017. Any earlier years can only be prepared on paper forms by hand--and those refunds have been forfeited now.
The current online program can only be used for a 2020 return--no other year. And if you did not file a 2019 return you will have trouble e-filing 2020. When it asks for your 2019 AGI try using zero. If zero does not work then you have to print, sign and mail 2020.
Online preparation and e-filing for 2017, 2018 and 2019 is permanently closed.
To file a return for a prior tax year
If you need to prepare a return for 2017, 2018, or 2019 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.
Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Note: The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac. It cannot be used on a mobile device.
If you are getting a refund, there is not a penalty for filing past the deadline. If you owe taxes, the interest/penalties will be calculated by the IRS based on how much you owe and when they receive your return and payment. The IRS will bill you for this; it will not be calculated by TurboTax.
