So I'm filing my sons taxes he is not on my bank account but for irs direct deposit we do have the same last name will this still be rejected by the bank?

according to turbo tax, any irs refund check to be direct deposited must have

exact matching names on refund vs bank account

Call your bank and ask.  It will be up to their discretion as to whether they allow the deposit or not.

It will depend on your bank.  Generally speaking the bank account will need to be in the name of the tax filer in order for the deposit to go into the account.  You can request a paper check, or you can get a pre-paid visa card (please see the following link for retailers: https://usa.visa.com/pay-with-visa/cards/card-finder/prepaid-finder-page.html) and contact them for a routing and account number to input just as if it were a checking account.
