The W-4 you gave your employer just told them how much to withhold from your paycheck. It does not dictate how you file your tax return. When you go through the questions about your child, make sure you say the child lived with you for the WHOLE year in 2018. You need to say that for a newborn so that you will get whatever child-related credits you are qualified for.
