If your child had more than $4400 of income in 2022 she cannot be claimed as a dependent.  Unless you have a qualified dependent you cannot file as Head of Household.

Am I Head of Household?

If you qualify as Head of Household, when you enter your marital status (single or married filing separately) into MyInfo, and then enter your qualifying dependent, TurboTax will offer HOH as your filing status.

Given the facts in your post, the child would not be a qualifying child under the Head of Household requirements.  However, the child could be a qualifying relative if the child was the daughter of your brother or sister.   Age is not a factor when determining who is a qualifying relative as it is when determining who is a qualifying child.  Here is the fill list of qualifying relatives:

Qualifying Relatives:

  • Your brother, sister, half brother, half sister, stepbrother, or stepsister.
  • Your grandparent, or other direct ancestor, but not foster parent.
  • A son or daughter of your brother or sister.
  • A son or daughter of your half brother or half sister.
  • A brother or sister of your father or mother. Your son-in-law, daughter-in-law, father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law.

If the child does not meet any of the above requirements, then go back and review your entries in My Info (online) or Personal Info (software), and then selecting Edit next to your name or your dependent's.
