TT shows an updated 1040 and IT-201 (with original taxes owed minus the amended refund) in addition to the amended 1040X and IT-201X, and I submitted these with the amended fed and state returns for 2022. Is there a reason why I should not submit the updated 1040 and IT-201 with the amended 1040X and IT-201X for 2024? I don't want the amended forms (with refunds) to be rejected because I didn't submit the updated original forms but if they're not expecting them, maybe I shouldn't? Thanks.

The 1040X first column shows what you filed originally. When you file an amended tax return, you do not include the original 1040 but you do include any other forms or schedules that were changed.
However, the New York IT-201X does not have a column for the original IT-201 AND The TT Individual Tax Return_Filing pdf includes the TT updated 1040 and IT-201. Doesn't Filing mean I should file the forms? Please clarify these two inconsistencies. I am attempting to get substantial refunds for overpayment of my 2024 federal and state income taxes. I don't want to get rejected for missing forms. Thanks.
My apologies! The NY is not like federal but NY has your original and only wants the amended form IT-201-X. NY Change or amend a filed return - Tax.NY.gov states:
Submit all the forms relevant to the information in your amended return (even if you already submitted these forms with your original return), such as:
Do not submit a copy of your original Form IT-201, IT-203, or IT-195.
I am only changing filing status, MFS to MFJ, so there aren't any new forms. I am taking your ((and everyone else's (including TT's)) advice and will mail only the 1040X + Schedule B to the IRS and IT-201X to NY State. That is, if I can't e-file either on Jan 26, when the IRS and NYSDF start accepting e-filed returns and TT says their software will be magically fixed and I will be able to e-file 🤣.
You should be able to submit your returns for electronic filing now in TurboTax - they will just be put in a queue for when the e-filing season opens on January 26, 2026. If for any reason your forms cannot be e-filed, TurboTax will alert you to that and give you the instructions for mailing the returns in.
I don't know about a "filing queue," but the invalid signature date problem will NOT let you e-file an amended return and short circuits the process. I just attempted to e-file but the first error message said my electronic signature of today's date was invalid because it wasn't between 1/1/2025 and 12/31/2025, so I accommodated by entering the original filing date of 2/4/2025. That brought up another error message that said I couldn't e-file because I was past the e-filing period which ended 11/15/25. It seems to be a glitch with the Turbotax software but when I call, they say wait until the IRS accepts e-file on January 26 and all will be well. I doubt it but we'll see. BTW, there is nothing wrong with my forms for filing (or e-filing) that I can see, and TT doesn't find any errors.
I don't believe that you will be able to efile any returns from 2022. Unfortunately the IRS only accepts tax returns for the current processing year and the two years prior. For this year that is 2023 and 24. You will have to mail in your amended returns.
