I no longer live in the United States. As my
visa expired in the year 2015, I have returned to India. However, I have
had the opportunity to render some services - while living here in India
during the year 2016 - as an independent
contractor to Upper Iowa University (UIU) - the same university that I have worked earlier before returning.
Now I have received a 1099-MISC with no
deductions from UIU for rendering services as an independent contractor
while living in India during the year 2016. I am not sure if I should file a tax return as I did not live in the United States.
I cannot file the tax return as usual, as I do
not have a W2. Receiving a 1099-MISC and not living in the US in the
year 2016 certainly has placed me in a different situation.
Any help will certainly be appreciated. Thank you very much.
