Shared Responsibility Payment for New jersey

Can someone explain to me how the shared responsibility payment works for new jersey? I’m married and had medicaid and my wife didn’t have health insurance for the past year!!!

Now turbo tax said that since I made less than the threshold 10,000$ for single and 20,000 for married couples, the penalty is waived. My question is about the nj healthcare mandate coverage exemption. Do I need to apply for the exemption since my income being below the threshold? Because on turbotax it only says it’s waived and on the next screen it tells me to click yes so they can share my information with njgetcovered to get coverage. However no where it asks for exemption code! It’s a bit confusing do I need the code and apply for it? Or no?

Shared Responsibility Payment for New jersey

No, you do not need to apply for the exemption or have an exemption code due to your income. Per the NJ-1040 instructions, If your income on line 29 is $20,000 or less ($10,000 if your filing status is single or married/CU ...

In addition, you don't have to enroll in Get Covered New Jersey. Those that choose to enroll and maintain their coverage for the remainder of the year will have their 2024 NJ-1040 shared-responsibility penalty waived. However, since you aren't subject to a penalty, this isn't applicable to your situation.

Please follow the instructions below to complete the health care section of your NJ return:

  1. Open your state return.
  2. Continue until you reach the page, About Your Health Insurance. Answer no, we did not have coverage for the whole year.
  3. Answer Yes on the page, About your Current Health Insurance Coverage.
  4. Answer No on the page, Easy Enrollment Health Insurance
  5. Finish your return.
