Scond return on online version of TurboTax for 2021

I am trying to do a return for my friend for 2021, I bought the online version from Amazon. I was told that  I can only do one return  with online version.  How do I handle the payment for the second one? I paid $ 64.00 for the online download. Do I need to pay another $ 64.00? How does that work? I am confused!!!

Amazon sells the CD/download.   Are you sure of what you purchased?  Did you enter a license code when you installed the software?   

If so you are not using "online" TurboTax.  You are using desktop TurboTax---aka the CD/download.

If you have the CD/download then just open the program from your own hard drive and click New Return to start a new return.  You get up to five federal e-files and have the software for one specific state.   There is a $20 fee to e-file the state or you can mail the state for free.

Did you get the Amazon program downloaded, installed and Activated with the License Code?   What kind of computer did you install it on?  The Desktop program can do unlimited returns.  Where were you told you can only do 1 return?

But it sounds like you might be in the Online web version instead of the Desktop program you bought.  When you filled out your return did you go online and log in?  The Online version has a black column on the left side with the menu items, Federal, State, File etc.

In the CD/Download Desktop program the menu items go across the top, Federal, State, Review, File.

Thank you for the reply. I have iMac desktop computer. I bought the Mac download that can have up to 5 Federal returns.I have   licence number for digital purchase.  but i tries to download it from  Amazon digtiat sitet, it did not ask for licence number!

Now that I want to do my friend's return, it does not accept her information. I spent a lot of time with Amazon's customer service and Turbotax, they COULDN'T HELP. Do I download the software each time that I do  a new return? How does these  5 federal returns work? In my purchase they did not indicate  that it is from online in online download. But when I try to save the tax  return for my friend, it says that it is downloaded from internet. HELP please. That was not the case last year! Should I pay  for additional return???

Please describe for us what your screen looks like.   Are the tools in a black band along the side of the page----or are they at the top of the screen?   We need to know if you are in online or desktop.  They look different.

No, you don't have to download it each time.  If you installed the Desktop program and entered the License Code to activate it you can do unlimited returns and efile 5 for free.  Go up to FILE - New to start another return.

I see people all the time that have bought the CD/Download Desktop Software but then somehow ended up using the Online version and didn't know it.  If that happened to you,  you can move your Online file to the Desktop program and continue without paying for Online or needing to reenter your info. Post back if you need to know how to move it to your Desktop program.

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return .tax file is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW).

Hello again. Do I  need to buy the desktop version? I already paid for online version. I have the license number for my online purchase. Could I use that and not pay?

Huh?  If you have a License Code you already bought the Desktop program.  You need to download the program and install it.   Or what License Number do you have?  The Desktop License Code is 16 digits like xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.   

If you haven't bought the Desktop program then all this thread doesn't apply.   To switch to the Desktop program you would have to buy it.  But if you already paid for Online they may give you the Desktop program.  You would have to call in and ask.

I am really frustrated!!! I  bought and downloaded  (from Intuit ) this software on my computer (Mac desktop) today. I paid $ 100.00 for it. 

I was with one of their agents for 2 hours yesterday ,because the download  version that I bought from Amazon in Jan 2022  would not allow me to do the return for my friend!

 The new one that I  bought t for my desktop this  morning  has the same **bleep** PROBLEM!!! Why can’t I do my friend’s federal return in this downloaded version that I bought his morning?

WHAT IS GOING ON THIS YEAR!!!  Do I need to get the actual primitive CD?  I don't have a CD slot in my iMac for the download. Please help!

@toofan1 We still do not know if you are confused and are logging on to online instead of using the CD/download software.   You have never answered the questions we asked ----please describe the physical appearance of the screens you are getting.   Where are the tools?   Are they in a black vertical column on the left side of the screen----or are they up on the top of the screen?

You haven't said if you got it Installed ok and entered the License Code to Activate it.  Here is a screen shot of the Mac program from my friend's Mac.  It is a couple years old but should look similar.  To start a new return go up  to FILE - New Tax Return.  Does yours look like this?
