Hello! I have "State and Local Income Tax Greater Than $10,000" with a negative number beside it. I benefited from a standard deduction. I can't figure out how it came up with this number because it doesn't seem like I paid more than $10,000 - the allowable amount.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
It is the amount of state (and local) income tax withheld from your income (such as a W-2) (or the amount of sales tax that you entered) plus Property Taxes paid.
Is the negative number showing the amount UNDER the 10,000 limit?
You can look at Schedule A line 5e, but to view this you may need to switch to Itemized Deductions.
HERE is how to View your 1040 using TurboTax Online
Desktop users switch to Forms (Top right)
The negative number is negative $1600. I don't have a schedule A. I pulled up all the forms at the "review" section and did print preview.
How do I switch to itemize on desktop?

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)
Click on Deductions & Credits
Click on I'll choose what I work on
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Done with Deductions
There will be a series of screens. About the fourth screen in there is the Standard Deduction screen. Click on the box labeled Change by Deduction
If you are using TurboTax Desktop, go back to the federal return
Deductions & Credits
"I'll choose"
Scroll down and click "Done with Deductions"
Next screen is "Let's Check Your Deductions and Credits"
Select Continue to see your results
Continue to the screen that says "Here Are Your 2024 Deductions & Credits"
Continue
Next screen might say "The Standard Deduction is Right for You"
Select "Change my deduction" and select "Itemized deductions of xxx"
Once you look over your Schedule A, be sure to repeat the steps and reverse if necessary
