I entered the sale of my rental in the Rental and Properties section, but it doesn't ask for the basis of the asset.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
What were the circumstances surrounding the sale?
If you click the "Yes" button on the "Special Handling" screen, you will not see the screen where you would enter basis information.
See this TurboTax support FAQ for the sale of a rental - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/real-property/sold-rental-property-repor...
You have to carefully follow the screens to report the sale.
On the screen Review Your Rental Summary click Start on Sale of Property/Depreciation
Follow the screens and on the screen Describe this Asset select Rental Real Estate Property
On the following screens you will be asked to enter the Cost and the Cost of Land. Continue with this section until it completes.
The basis of the property should have already been listed in the ASSET section of the rental area so all you have to do is sell off all the assets in that section. If you have failed to depreciate the assets then RUN to a local tax pro to get this error corrected properly ... it is not a DIY situation.
