Sale of Home the Year You Divorce

My (now) ex wife and I sold our house (primary residence)  in August of 2023.  Our divorce was final the end of September of 2023.  How should I enter the data for this sale?

When the house sold, she got half of the proceeds.  I don't see any way to split the sales expenses or profits.

Thanks.

Brian

Simply divide the numbers in half before reporting on your tax return.  This will allow you to properly report the portion that is yours.

Be sure to keep the records related to this sale in an easily accessible area for at least 3 years so that you can quickly find it should you need to provide additional information to the IRS at a later date.
