RSU shares sold to cover taxes per Turbo Tax and W2 -box 1 mismatch

I have carefully entered my RSU shares sold and the portion that covers taxes in the interview session for the 1099B reporting.  However, the calculated amount for the portion that covers taxes exceeds my known amount in Box 1 wages.  What might be causing the mismatch?  I have spent hours entering and re-entering the 1099B

it's not really clear what you did.

the 1099B shows the sale price of the RSUs sold.  your cost basis is the portion included in box 1 for the shares sold.   normally if the compensation is at the same time as the sale, there should be little or no gain or loss.

the taxes taken out do not enter into the gain/loss computation.
