I am age 73 using Turbotax Premier. I took the required RMDs in 2024 because I don't want to have two years of distributions fall in 2025. The instruction says to enter zero for amt due Dec 31,2024 because they aren't technically due until April 1. If I enter zero then it doesn't allow me to assign this distribution to 2024 RMD requirement. If I enter the amt of the 2024 RMD then it lets me make the assignment. I assume that Turbotax plans to do that when I file next year's taxes but I don't like making assumptions.

Yes enter the amount you took in 2024 for the RMD question. Enter the amount from 1099R box 1 for each 1099R.
The amount in 1099R Box 1 is the total withdrawal not the RMD for the account. Looking at the RMD worksheets it doesn't appear that the step by step process is filling out the forms properly.
You can enter the RMD for this account since you decided to take it in 2024. Please see these instructions:
Thank you, I had decided that I needed to do something like that. It seems like there should be a direct way let Turbotax know that something is wrong.
