returns listed under continue your 2022 return

When I start up TT the initial window shows the same tax return listed twice, but with different last modified dates.

There does not appear to be a way to remove the old one?

There is only 1 file with that name in my tax directory

It sounds like you have two files in your program. The other file may be in a different place on your hard drive, not in the tax directory. You may be able to find it by using the search icon at the bottom of your computer screen. Type in the name and it may appear, then you can left click on it with your mouse to delete it.

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for your response.  The filename is the same for both files listed in TT.  The only difference is the modified date and that only the newer one requires a password to open.  I had added that prior to the last save.

The search you suggested revealed that there were actually 3 files with the same name in different locations.

The two with the older modify date and the size different from the one I have been working with were located in ...\AppData\Roaming\microsoft\window\.. and in a dir named Recent.  Both of those files were listed as type 'shortcut' by the search.  I suspect that the MS OS or TT put them in those locations as I certainly did not.

I tried to remove the files, but could only find .lnk references to modified names.  Removing those did not resolve my issue.

The annoying thing about this is that there appears to be no way to remove the offending file from within TT ?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Ric

I have reported this as a bug to TT customer support.   BTW your link to customer support did not take me anywhere useful for contacting support.  I got in touch with them by googling for the customer support phone #.

Also, I figured out a work around for the issue and now consider it resolved afaic.

Except for the bug I reported.

Is it the ~ file?  The ~ is a tilde file.   Those are temporary files that you normally don't see and normally are deleted.  But now Turbo Tax is leaving them in the folder in case something happens like your computer crashes.  Then you can go back.  Just ignore them.
