You may have inadvertently entered an inappropriate figure in the federal portion of TurboTax Online that's generating this in your Michigan program. To check:
- Select Tax Home in the left pane
- On the Hi, let's keep working on your taxes! screen, select the dropdown to the right of Wages & Income
- Select Start, Pick up where you left off or Review/Edit, as appropriate
- Select Edit to the right of Net Operating Loss/QBI Carryforward Loss under Your income. If it's not there, scroll down and select the dropdown to the right of Other Business Situations
- Select Edit, Edit/Add or Revisit to the right of Net Operating Loss/QBI Carryforward Loss
- Make any changes necessary on the subsequent screens
If that doesn't help:
- Open TurboTax Online
- Select Tax Home in the left pane
- On the Hi, let's keep working on your taxes! screen, select the dropdown to the right of State Taxes box, then select Pick up where you left off
- If you land on the Status of your state returns screen, select Continue to the right of Michigan
- Select Continue or Edit to the right of Michigan. If no state is shown, select + Add another state
- Proceed through the state screens until you come to the Here's the income that Michigan handles differently screen
- Below Business, select Revisit to the right of Michigan Net Operating Loss
- On the Net Operating Loss Attributed to Michigan screen, delete any amount entered in the box, then select Continue
This will delete any Michigan NOL information.
