Request to Reconsider Discontinuation of ItsDeductible

Dear Intuit/TurboTax Team,

I am writing to express my deep concern and disappointment about the recent notice announcing that ItsDeductible will be discontinued in October 2025.

I have relied on ItsDeductible for many years to accurately track and value my charitable donations throughout the year. It has been an essential part of my tax preparation process, and one of the main reasons I’ve stayed with TurboTax instead of moving to other providers.

I want to remind you that this is not the first time discontinuation has been announced. A few years ago, you reconsidered the decision after strong customer feedback—and I hope you will do the same now. ItsDeductible fills a unique need for taxpayers who donate regularly, especially non-cash donations, and removing it mid-year creates unnecessary disruption and frustration.

At minimum, I respectfully request that Intuit:

  1. Continue ItsDeductible through the end of the 2025 tax year, so users can complete their records without interruption.

  2. Provide a direct replacement within TurboTax that includes the same donation valuation tools and year-round tracking.

  3. Offer users a way to export and import their existing data so we don’t lose years of carefully tracked donation history.

I value TurboTax and have recommended it to others because of tools like ItsDeductible. But eliminating this service with no clear replacement will make it very difficult for me to justify staying with Intuit.

Please reconsider this decision. Your loyal customers have spoken up before, and I hope you will listen again.

Sincerely,
Angela [removed]
Washougal, WA

Dear Intuit/TurboTax Team,

No offense, but you'd probably be better off writing a letter to the corporate office.

There is no "Intuit/TurboTax Team" here; only volunteers together with moderators and admins who take care of this board. About all they can do is pass your concerns along to their superiors.

I think you would be better off escalating this issue about ItsDeductible to the Intuit Office of the President, as I recently did. Here are the instructions: fill out an escalation form at https://www.intuit.com/company/contact/office-of-the-president/?cid=executives_intuit_click_us_oop-f...  Note: You will have to check "yes" to the question about having previously contacted Customer Support  in order to send the complaint, which I think is fine since there is no option in the Customer Support phone number menu to talk to anyone about ItsDeductible.

I think there is a chance that they might reconsider as they have done before--the more people that the Intuit's executives hear from, the better.  However, I received a response from someone at the Office of the President indicating that the decision was "firm." I also asked that the elimination of ItsDeductible be at least delayed until after the 2025 tax filing deadline.

@Mochina thanks, I looked for an email address, but can you believe it... I can't find one! I thought maybe it was someone's job to monitor this board.

It doesn't really matter anymore, as I've made the decision to swtich to H&R Block. I'm sick of TurboTax jerking us around.

I saw your other message first...

Request to Reconsider Discontinuation of ItsDeductible

Based on my recent conversation with a representative from Intuit’s Office of the President, there’s currently no new information being provided. They were unable to offer any insight into whether ItsDeductible might be reinstated, or what options—if any—will be made available to longtime users.

Interestingly, the representative acknowledged that it seemed odd for the software to be sunset midyear, especially without any clear plan or communication regarding how users would access or use their data when filing their 2025 tax returns.

This leaves loyal customers in a difficult position, forced to wait and see what Intuit ultimately decides. Understandably, many are choosing to move on, and I’m leaning in that direction myself given the history of similar issues.

Still, I remain hopeful that calm, reasoned voices will prevail—and that Intuit will recognize the value of this community and make the right decision

It might not be anyone's TT job to monitor this community, but there were TT employees/support participating in these forums earlier this year for the 2024 tax season.

As far as discontinuation, I'm very disappointed. TT could have at least keep itsdeductible alive for 2025 and then not offered it for 2026 onward. So disruptive. I been using TT since 1993, but it seems it might now be time to move on.

That is correct but, for the most part, those people are seasonal employees hired to answer tax questions and TurboTax functionality questions. Almost all of them are gone after tax season.

What are you going to "move on" to? No other DIY, consumer-level income tax prep program has the functionality of ItsDeductible. There's a paid program (~$30/yr) that supposedly works like ItsDeductible, but nothing free of charge offered by the likes of H&R Block, TaxAct, etc.

I to am so disappointed by TT dropping Its Deductible.   This is not a SUNSET of a product, but just a drop.   A sunset situation would have at least continued the product through 2025 tax season.

As to what to move on to, since HR Block and TaxAct don't have a similar feature like Its Deductible... that is not the point of moving on.    We are paying a premium for TT BECAUSE of features like Its Deductible, but now, I will seriously consider paying that premium and move to a different product for taxes if there is no additional benefit.

I have used TurboTax since the 1980's and this isn't the first time that TT has made bonehead moves in their product offering and many here have already pointed to the attempt in 2022 to get rid of It's Deductible.

Further back in time, TT tried to remove the schedule C process from the TurboTax Deluxe product and force you to use a business version of the tool for nearly 2 times the cost, when my schedule C was only to report my earnings from a part time Music minister position.   The next year they re-instated it back into deluxe... but it caused a huge issue for their customers.

This is all about squeezing a little more profit out at their customers expense.  The team of developers to maintain Its Deductible or fold it into the main product can't be that much... and hey, it would have been easier if they just charged a small annual fee for a subscription for Its Deductible.   I wouldn't have liked that, but at least I probably would not be looking for other Tax return software.

If you don't mind paying a small annual fee, try Deductible Duck. Problem solved.

Deductible Duck does not import directly into TurboTax... that's why.   Why pay a subscription for something that still requires manual entry.   Nice Try Deductible Duck... but I don't want others to think that it will solve the problem.   Yes it organizes and tracks, but you still have to manually enter.   This is where the time savings while doing my taxes is saved.   All of that itemization is already done and it is about 2 minutes to import it all into my taxes... but alas... no more.

Did you even bother to read the information on the web site?

"Track every donation you make, whether it’s stock, mileage, money or items. Export your data for safekeeping or use by a CPA. Easily transfer the results to TurboTax. Just as reliable as ItsDeductible online"

Request to Reconsider Discontinuation of ItsDeductible

NO WHERE on that website does it say that you can IMPORT the data directly to TT.   And Copilot, ChatGpt and others say that Deductible Duck cannot Import direct to turbotax.

And since you are obviously a marketing plant AI Bot... the condescending tone you took with me with "did you even bother to read the information on the website?"  tells me you are NOT a company I want to do business with.   Just because you say... "Easily transfer the results to Turbo Tax."   Does not mean it "imports" to Turbo Tax.

If it does Import, you should explicitly claim that, but you don't.   Track $500 for free, then $30/year after that... for me at least would mean I would have to spend $30 to then find out that I have to key it all into TT... no thanks

I'm done.

I am NOT a "marketing plant AI Bot"; I am a volunteer answering questions on this board and have been doing so for years.

My wife and I actually have donative intent (true donative intent) and simply donate cash and goods to various charitable organizations WITHOUT expecting anything in return, including a tax deduction.
