1. I thought I could just get all my TT tax year 2020 DESKTOP FILE info transferred automatically to TT tax year 2021 online version by the option that says drag a PDF of my 2020 Tax Year returns into an online window
2. but it didn't transfer a lot of key info like my rental prop stuff or even my cap gains/losses carryover...
3. Is there a solution to this w/o having to do manually.
4. If manual entry required - can someone point me to a link that tells me exactly what I have to transfer over ESPECIALLy regarding
a. cap gains/losses AND
b. info related to my rental property which I sold in 2021.
5. I'm so lost about what to transfer over because in the past using only the desktop TT versions, it was done automatically but because I have to use the online version to import all my crypto I have to at least start out with the online version
6. then create a TT file that i can download and finish off via my desktop TT version.
Thank you in advance to anyone that can help me.
PS does anyone know when the last day I can file taxes ONLINE vs hard copy?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Transferring a PDF typically only results in limited information being imported.
You need to use your TurboTax tax file, .taxXXXX.
Intuit usually shuts down e-filing near the end of October.

Try again. You need to transfer from the .tax2020 file not the pdf. If you used the Desktop program last year here’s How to transfer into the Online version. You need to have the prior year .tax2020 file on your computer. Expand the link if you used the CD/download last year........

So clear your online return or start a new online account to transfer from 2020. Then start 2021 online and import your crypto. Then download the .tax2021 file to your desktop program.
ok got it. So weird, last night it looked like that was the only option but now I see with your guidance/links etc. Thank you you saved me a ton of stress moving forward wondering how or what to manually enter.
how long should the transfer take? I'm on try # 3 or #4 - just stays on "Uploading your TurboTax Desktop file"
10 mins on average then before I get any "completion" msg i get signed out of TT. Whatzup?! 😮
I am online with TT support and they said because I did not file electronically that this upload from my computer won't work - does that make any sense at all? !
this is what TT cust service says: read last sentence about not trans over complex calcs like depreciation: TRUE?
We'll transfer over 100 fields to help you get a head start on your return, including: Names and other personal info Social Security numbers Addresses Employer and business info Income forms such as W-2s and 1099s Credits and deductions Refunds and tax owed amounts Capital losses Disallowed deductions Credits carried over to subsequent years Tax schedule information E-file signatures if you successfully e-filed last year Be aware that TurboTax does not transfer information that requires complex calculations, like depreciation.
is intuit shutting things down why my .tax2020 file is just getting stuck w” uploading file” but nver completes?
i did this and the upload keeps freezing - TT chat support ysterday said bcz i did not file my 2020 taxes online (i missed efile deadline and had to send snail mail) - that i cannot upload .tax2020 file
ps if typos or short text it’s bcz i am typing from phone
if i have to manually transfer info related to my rental prop that i been doing in TT the last 14 yrs where online in TT i hope can i see what i need to manually transfer to tt2021?! ugh so frustrating
why is thos solved? i don’t see a solution.😳
