Received "proposed amount due" from IRS for 2018 return. Figured listed missing incomes info are from1099-B,Short-term transactions, missed on Form 8949.Please advise.TY!

I have received  a  "proposed amount due" from the IRS for my 2018 return.
After doing some research, I realized most of the income info listed on the letter, are from my 1099-B "Short-term transaction for which basis is not reported to the IRS" which I had missed reporting on Form 8949, Part I, with Box B checked.
I stated a 2018 tax amend and the amount due is significantly lower than the proposed amount by IRS.

My question :  Do I need to proceed with mailing the amend+ my calculated new amount due (lower than IRS proposed amount) or should I just pay the proposed amount and mail my 1099-B form as a supporting document?

Any advice is highly appreciated as I am trying to minimize the response time and possible penalties/interest.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

no, to pay the lower amount of tax you have to amend and supply the correct Schedule D and Form 8949.

you should do so immediately.

respond to the notice that you dispute the amount and you will amend.
