Received a 2022 W2 for a spouse that died in December of 2021. Taxes for 2021 were filed as widow..How do I file 2022 to account for this unexpected 2022 W2?

TTax would not allow me to change the filing status to anything other than single.. spouses DoD was 12/28/2021.. I suspect the 2022 W2 for spouse was to pay for accused vacation time and was paid in January 2022 to close out employers books..

In the year after the employee's death the employer should issue any amounts paid to the employee on a 1099-MISC with the payments in Box 3.  

Your spouse's employer issued this form in error.  You should request the correct form along with a refund of any withholding.

Thank you for the reply.. I will reach back to spouses former employee and work with them to correct.. Thank you again,  the 1099-MISC makes far more sense than a W2.
