Why do I owe money when I work part time and am a full-time student

Income tax is determined by the amount of earned income and unearned income you receive throughout the year.  If you do not have any special circumstances that require you to file, the filing requirement for 2022 is $12,950.  Being a full-time student does not exempt you from income tax.  However, if you are a full-time student, you may be eligible for education credits.
