Where do you find the TIN number for Social Security?

There is not a TIN for Social Security.  You are entering the SS benefits from a SSA-1099 in the wrong section of the program.  Please delete the form you are using.

To enter Social Security benefits reported on form SSA-1099

• Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
• Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
• Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
• Scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
• On Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099), click the start or update button

Or enter ssa-1099 in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to ssa-1099

Please clarify why you need the TIN for Social Security.

If it is to enter your form SSA-1099 in TurboTax, then you do not the TIN of Social Security to enter this form.

You can enter your form SSA-1099 by following these steps:

1. In TurboTax, open your tax return
2. Click on Federal in the left-hand column, then on Wages & Income on top of the screen
3. Scroll down and locate the section Retirement Plans and Social Security and click on Show more
4. Click Start next to Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099).
