Wait for amended return before filing?

I just mailed my amended 2019 taxes. I imported that file into TurboTax 2020  to do this year’s taxes. Is there any reason I would need to wait for the amended taxes before filing 2020?

I don’t think I have any carry over deductions or withholding.

No, if amending your 2019 return did not generate any carryover losses or other situations that carried over to your 2020 return then you can go ahead with filing your 2020 return at any time.

So if my amended returns DID add carryover losses, then I need to file an extension for 2020 and wait the 16 weeks until they are accepted?

As long as you account for the carryovers in the amendment, you do not need to wait for the amendment to be processed before filing 2020 taxes.

@judymarie1952 If you had carry over amounts that changed due to your 2019 amendment,

make sure they are reflected in your 2020 tax return.

In my opinion, that is no reason to delay e-Filing 2020.
