Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

Utilities

When utilities were added on schedule C  line 25 Turbo tax added  more and about doubled the entry on the return.  Cannot understand where  Turbo Tax got that figure to add on.

Thank you

Did you also report any "communication expenses" in the interview?

"Communication expenses" (business cellphone service, second phone line for business, business Internet, etc.) are included in the figure shown for "Utilities" on Sch C, Line 25.    The TurboTax interview has you enter them as a separate expense category, but in the end it is added with Utilities.

If you are using desktop software, you can look at the Schedule C Worksheet in Forms Mode.  On that worksheet, the Sch C Line 25 is subdivided, and you will see that "Utilities" actually consists of 2 figures, one of which is the communication expenses, and the other is actual utilities (electricity, gas, water, etc.for a separate business property--NOT home office utilities, which are reported on Form 8829).  The  way to view this breakdown is by running the software program and looking at the Schedule C in Forms Mode, and you'll see the 2 separate figures.

Or if you are using Online TurboTax, once you pay for your product, you can download the worksheets to view.

Only the total of the two figures is shown on the actual Schedule C, Line 25.

ADDENDUM.

If you are using Online TurboTax, in order to view the Schedule  C Worksheet you would need to pay for your product, which provides printing privileges of all the forms and worksheets.   We can tell you how.  Or if you have already paid, we can tell you how to get the worksheets.

Thank you, you answered my question completely and I understand now what happened on my return.

You're welcome.  I'm glad it explained your situation.  Good luck.
