So, I used the non-filer tool to receive my stimulus check because I have never filed taxes for 2018 or 2019 as of yet and my mother at the time did not file her 2019 taxes so I was not claimed as a dependent for 2019 yet.
-Knowing the information i know now, I understand that this tool was ONLY intended for ppl were not going to file for 2019.
- I would like to know if I would be able to file my taxes for 2019, but I understand that I used this NON-Filer tool, so I want to know what can be done now? Can I just leave it as just is due to my low-income for 2019 and not file taxes?
ALSO....
-What about if my mother wants to claim me as a dependent for her 2019 taxes? What should be done? I already used the Non- filer tool to receive the stimulus check.

If you could be claimed as someone else's dependent (mom's) then you should not have received a stimulus check.
Sounds like you plunged into it without understanding. You cannot e-file now, and if your mother wants to file a tax return that claims you--she will not be able to e-file. She will have to print, sign and mail her own return.
We do not have your facts -- so we do not know if you can be claimed or not. Do you meet the criteria to be a qualifying child or qualifying relative?
WHO CAN I CLAIM AS A DEPENDENT?
You can claim a child, relative, friend, fiance (etc.) as a dependent on your 2019 taxes as long as they meet the following requirements:
Qualifying child
• They are related to you.
• They cannot be claimed as a dependent by someone else.
• They are a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
• They are not filing a joint return with their spouse.
• They are under the age of 19 (or 24 for full-time students).
• They live with you for more than half the year (exceptions apply).
Qualifying relative
• They don't have to be related to you (despite the name).
• They cannot be claimed as a dependent by someone else.
• They are a U.S. citizen, resident alien, national, or a Canadian or Mexican resident.
• They are not filing a joint return with their spouse.
• They lived with you the entire year.
• They made less than $4200 (not counting Social Security)
• You provided more than half of their financial support. More info
When you add someone as a dependent, we'll ask a series of questions to make sure you can claim them.

• What does "financially support another person" mean?
And now you may need to file a return?
To better clarify,
My mother has not yet filed her taxes nor have I for 2019. I want to know if I already have received the stimulus check using the non-filer tool on IRS, would she be able to claim me on her 2019 taxes ? I understand that dependents( over 17) cannot receive a stimulus check for $1,200.
What is the best thing to do at this point?
Can I return the stimulus check and therefore let her claim me as a dependent for 2019.
Thank you for your help.
Mom cannot e-file now. You have put your SSN into the system. If she can claim you--as already stated--the only way she can file is by mail now. If she tries to e-file her return will be rejected. Regardless of what you do now, she cannot e-file.
You did not really tell us if you qualify as a dependent so we are flying blind here.
If returning the stimulus money is your course of action if Mom will claim you:
If you received a payment for someone who doesn’t qualify, you must return it to the IRS.
IRS instructions to return a paper check:
IRS instructions to return an already cashed paper check or a direct deposit:
To re-clarify,
Prior to me using the non-filer tool for the stimulus check, I would have qualified as a dependent regarding my income and me not having filed yet. That's only if I never received my stimulus check of 1,200.
How can my mom not file her own taxes for 2019? I don't get that. If I do NOT get claimed by her for 2019, why can't she file now for herself without claiming me if what I'm trying to ask??? I received my own stimulus check already through the non-filer option.
Thanks.
I do understand and get the part of her not being able to e-file if she claims me. now But what I was trying to ask, what if she does not claim me for 2019, she is still able to file for herself regularly? I already figured out that I cannot be claimed due to me receiving the stimulus check and not filing taxes for myself. Basically nothing I decided to do will affect her own taxes for herself is what I'm trying to ask. She NEVER got to claim me for 2019 and now she won't, so everything should be just fine for her?
If your mom cannot claim you and does not try to claim you then she has as good a chance of e-filing successfully as anyone else has. If she does not claim you, then your SSN will not be on her return -- thus it will not be a problem for her.
Thank you. She just filed yesterday with no issue. Now what I would like to know for MYSELF, is if I'm required to file for 2019 taxes. My income for gross income for 2019 on earned income was less than $5,000 according to my W-2's. Am I required by law to file for 2019 taxes? I'm afraid I will get into some sort of trouble, this would've been my first year filing but remember that I did the Non filer tool with the IRS.
Also, Next year will I be able to amend the 2019 tax return for myself due to me not being able to do it this year?
That Non-filer tool really screwed a lot of people up like myself who did not file 2018 or 2019 at the moment the tool was available on IRS.
What is your advice ?
If you only had W2 income under 12,200 you don't have to file except to get back any withholding from box 2 or 17 taken out. Since you already filed by filling out the non-Filer page you will have to mail your return.
Thank you for your answer. So if I just have a regular W-2, then it's okay if my income was less than 12,200 for 2019?
Can I do this same thing with the amending 2019's tax return of when next tax season starts next tax season or do I have to do it today (the deadline) ?
Is box 2 and 17 "Federal income tax withheld" and "State income taxes withheld" what you are referring to ? If so, I have both of those boxes with a dollar amount so that means taxes were withheld and it's okay if I don't file for 2019, correct? Thank you.
Right Federal and state withholding. You can file to get those back. But if it's very small amounts and you don't want to file for refunds you don't have to file.
Do you need to file a return?
Understandable. What I want to know os it okay I do that next tax season for 2019? I don't have to do that for this deadline right? I believe you have up to three years to go back and get a refund for years one has not filed.
Right. But you have to file each year separately. You can't add it onto next year. After Oct 15 you don't be able to use Turbo Tax Online version or efile.
Yes, I understand this. Each year is separate. And understand the e-file thing will close on October for those who have the Extended deadline permission. I don't have that extended deadline, so I can just wait until next tax season starts and get any taxes back to me for 2019, correct? I understand 2020 is a whole separate year.
