Updates

Hello TT, been using TT for about 10 yrs. now and I always wondered WHEN TT can be finally used for tax returns because every time I sign in to TT it does updates. So, when is it safe to finally do your taxes to make sure all tax info has been updated in TT software?

Just like this last update that announced that CRITICAL updates were installed in program.  If I already used TT to prepare my tax forms will I have to start over?

Updates

Joybil,

I think it is prudent to wait to file after Feb 15, end of Feb (best).  This is because many financial institutions, like Charles Schwab do not have the more complicated 1099R's complete and downloadable. They are subject to other institutions like Mutual Funds, changing Div's to Cap Gains, etc. and then have to re-issue 1099's as "Corrected".  This would be only if you do not have a complicated tax return.  If you have any MLP, Limited Partnerships, and some REITs - They can send you K1's and other forms through March!

You will not have to redo your TTax entries (file) as all the same data is re-entered into the new TTax Update, whether it is an updated form or a program change.

This is why any TTax Updates REQUIRE an explanation of what was updated so we know in the future - even after April 15th, whether the update changes our tax situation at all, or enough, to have to file an Amended Tax Return!!! Get it TTAX (Intuit)!!!

This has still not been corrected, three weeks later.

Me too.  Even the "answer" took me to the sorry support has moved page too.

Taxact and H&R both provide release notes, and do not have the licensing issues.  I found this in a 30 second search (well, that is I DIDN'T find anyone complaining about the license issue, which I take to mean that issue doesn't exist on those).  So, put down the kool-aid glass.  We aren't drinking it anymore.

On second thought, I returned TT as I said I was going to, so I really don't have a dog in this fight anymore.  Best of luck to you all.  To the level 15 guy who keeps defending TT by saying "well such and such company doesn't have it either":  You miss the point totally.  You are pretty obviously a TT employee.  The bottom line is that Intuit has violated its customers trust.  As a financial company they need to be better than this.  There is no coming back from treating people this way.  If they are deceptive (or inept) with this, what else are they being deceptive (or inept) with?

Updates

I have been using TT for over 20 years, I am not in IT or computer programing, nor am I a tax specialist, however I have never had any trouble understanding the Release Notes - and I read them. I own my own business and want to make sure everything I am filing is correct, in order to do this I need to know what changes TT is making. I have also not received any emails about updates and changes. I have resisted switching from TT despite the outrageous price increases, next year I will be changing unless TT resumes Release Notes.

THIS IS A DEAD LINK; SORRY TO HAVE PUT IT HERE. some info is available here on the IRS page, but not everything:

Updates

one_elmwood what thread are you replying to?

IRS is not going to have information on TurboTax updates/corrections to its program. IRS might tell us when forms are finalized, but not what software errors are in the various TurboTax programs.

This is why being able to read the release notes is so important to the users of the software.

Updates

one-elmwood: I went to your link and and it read that IRS page

is not available.  FYI.

End of a Steady Decline in Customer Support. This is The End for Me!

As a 20 year Intuit TurboTax customer, I am dismayed and disappointed that the decision was made to stop providing users with Software Update Notes. This is a longstanding SOP for all software and I count on this feature to decide when it is OK for me to file. I find it it a bit insulting that someone decided "it's too complicated" for users to understand. There was no notice of this change; the link to updates was left in the software, but leads to a blank page; and I had to waste 15 minutes sifting through a social site to find out the feature has been removed. I didn't even see in that time an official response or to all the user questions in the "community". Peer response is not "software support". It took another bit of wasted time to find that the "Contact Us" link also steers me toward community rather than actual support or customer service. The trend was already bad. This is the final straw.  This will be the last year I use TurboTax.  I'll cancel my subscription take my business and loyalty elsewhere.

Updates

I have used and relied on turbotax for many years.  But, this will be the last year unless I get information on the updates.

Updates

Shame on TT, critical updates with NO explanation. Leaving customers in the dark. Terrible. Is TT ashamed to admit their faults or programming skills. PUT the explanations back, make up something if you have to. TT is acting untrustworthy.

Updates

After following all the comments, I definitely believe their goal is to have ALL users rely on their online version.  For me, that is NOT TODAY,NOT TOMORROW, NOT EVER.  They have worked very well for me in the past, but unless the release notes return before 4/1/2020, I will not use TT again.

Updates

Link in updates still takes me to a page that no longer exists.
