Unemployment

Hello,

It is my understanding you did not include your unemployment on your originally filed tax return and have filed an amended return to include the unemployment compensation.

We do know that the IRS is currently several months behind in processing amended returns. The "normal" (pre-COVID) quoted timeframe for an amended return to be processed was 16 weeks. Now, due to staffing shortages, I would add a few months to that timeframe at a minimum.

The IRS is not issuing the 2021 advance child tax credit payments if the taxpayer has a return that needs to be processed.  I wish there were a better answer.  The good news is you will receive the full amount of the 2021 child tax credit when you file your 2021 tax return.

The IRS does have a child tax credit portal where you can make changes.  The IRS is continuing to add features to this portal, so definitely watch for updates for specifics that match your situation.

I hope you find this information helpful!
