You can review and change this amount in TurboTax.  Follow these steps:

  • Go to the "Deductions and Credits" screens in TurboTax
  • You will need to go to the "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid" Section.  If you don't see it, click the "Add more Deductions" button to open up additional deduction categories.
  •  Click the "Show More" then click the "Start Button" next to Income Taxes Paid
  • The second grouping contains "2019 refund applied to 2020 Federal Taxes".  Make your change there.

Normally, you manually make this selection to apply you refund to the next tax year.  Make sure you did receive your 2019 refund amount and review line 22 of the 2019 form 1040 to insure you did not have your refund applied to your 2020 tax year.

Oh my gosh, Thank you so much.  I have no one to ask questions about turbo tax and Turbo wouldn't answer my calls.  I tried for the last 3 days.  Luckily I found your advise and it got my problem solved.  Thanks for sharing your advise because I'd spent probably 19 hours trying to solve this before finding your advise.  Thanks, thanks, thanks.
