My 2019 return said it was rejected so I mailed it. Called in JAN and they said it was stuck cause I double filed and they would get it unstuck. Still hasn’t been process

I filed in June 2020 and TurboTax said efile was rejected. So I mailed it in. I didnt get second or this round stimulus. When I called in January they said the efile that TurboTax said was rejected was actually accepted and thus they had two returns for me and didn’t know what to do. I told them they were the same and they said they could get it processed. Now six months later it still hasn’t been processed and I still haven’t gotten any of the stimulus payments

I don’t know how TurboTax can help you.  You have to keep working with the IRS. If there is a local IRS office near you see if you can make an appointment. Sometimes writing or calling your congressional representative can get results.

The IRS might still be processing your 2019 return.   Apparently there was a lot of confusion because you e-filed a 2019 return AND mailed a 2019 return-----during a pandemic when the IRS was not processing mailed returns--but was piling them up in trailers.   So now you are still waiting for them to sort out your 2019 return.   Ugh.

But....you are not going to get the stimulus payments based on that 2019 return now even if they finish processing it.    In order to get the 1st and 2nd stimulus payments you have to file a 2020 tax return and use the recovery rebate credit on the 2020 return.   There is no place on a 2020 return to enter anything about the 3rd stimulus but it is often released after they process your 2020 return if you are eligible for it.

So....prepare and file a 2020 return.   In order to e-file it, use "zero" as your 2019 AGI since the IRS does not have a 2019 AGI in the system for you.

The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return.  If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check in 2020, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021

The Recovery Rebate Credit will be found in the FEDERAL REVIEW section. ( you should see "Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount”)  If you are eligible it will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.

Make sure that you enter ALL of the stimulus money received for the 1st and 2nd stimulus for yourself, your spouse and your children.

TurboTax cannot track your 3rd stimulus or tell you when it will arrive.  The IRS is issuing 3rd stimulus checks on its own timetable.

You can use the IRS Get My Payment site to see what is expected for your 3rd stimulus check:

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately I took some sort of credit for 2020 so had to mail that one in as well. Something weird happened when I called in last JAN too, the guy asked me for my AGI over the phone and then that ended up being the AGI the IRS accepts.

Do you happen to know if I will still get the stimulus based on my 2019 AGI? Its much lower than my 2020 AGI. Also, I have back taxes I'm paying off with a payment plan, will they just keep it then?

Yes.

@frank97 The IRS will NOT use your 2019 income to give you the recovery rebate credit now.  They will ONLY use your 2020 income.    If your 2020 income is too high your credit will be phased out.  And....if you are on a payment plan for back taxes, the credit will be used toward the tax you owe.  They will send you a letter when they take the refund.

When the IRS sent out the first stimulus check in 2020 they had to send those checks out in a hurry so they used information from 2018 or 2019.   But now that tax year 2020 is over, they will only use information from 2020 to determine the amount you get---they will not go backwards and use 2018 or 2019.

The amount for the 1st or 2nd EIP payment is phased out at these income levels:

  • $150,000  if married and filing a joint return
  • $112,500 if filing as  head of household or
  • $75,000  for eligible individuals using any other filing status
Your payment will be reduced by 5% of  the amount by which your AGI exceeds the applicable threshold above.

The IRS is issuing 3rd stimulus checks on its own timetable.

You can use the IRS Get My Payment site to see what is expected for your 3rd stimulus check:

https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment

There is a phaseout for the 3rd stimulus payment based on your 2020 income:

Eligible individuals don’t need a minimum income for the third payment. However, for higher income individuals, the payment amount is reduced when their adjusted gross income exceeds the following thresholds:

  • $150,000 for taxpayers filing a joint return or filing a return as a qualifying widow or widower
  • $112,500 for taxpayers filing as head of household
  • $75,000 for eligible individuals using any other filing status

The third payment is reduced if their AGI is above these thresholds. No payment is made when AGI is at least the following amount:

  • $160,000 for taxpayers filing a joint return or filing a return as a qualifying widow or widower
  • $120,000 for taxpayers filing as head of household
  • $80,000 for eligible individuals using any other filing status

The 3rd EIP payment cannot be offset for your back taxes owed.
