My 2018 AGI is listed correctly but e-file rejected?

The IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud.

You can request a transcript of your 2018 tax return from the IRS to ensure you have the right number. You can request your transcript online at the following link: Get Transcript

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number.  If you:

  • Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.
  • Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).
  • Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.
  • Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2018 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter 0 for one of you).

Unfortunately, without the correct number, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

did you e-file? are you sure your return was accepted if e-filed or received by IRS if mailed?     did you file after  10/15/2019?   did you amend after 10/15/2019?

 sometimes $0 works

2020 Efile  rejected but 2019 AGI entered correctly for verification. What should I do?

My 2018 AGI is listed correctly but e-file rejected?

If your 2019 AGI is causing your tax return to be rejected, you can try entering "0" instead. The IRS requires your 2019 AGI to verify your identity for e-filing. If you're paper-filing your return, you won't need your AGI because those are manually processed.

See the information here for steps to correct your AGI on your 2020 tax return.

If you need assistance on locating your 2019 tax return, please see the following TurboTax FAQ for more information:

You can order a free transcript of your return at the IRS Get Transcript site or you can purchase a full copy of your 2019 return. Both versions will include your AGI.

What else could cause rejection if AGI is correct?

Please see the below TurboTax FAQ for potential reasons you're getting an e-file reject for your AGI:

What if I entered the correct AGI and I’m still getting an e-file reject?
