Lost my 2018 filing. Do I need it when filing 2019?

I filed my 2018 taxes on my previous computer which has since been wiped.  I forgot to back up some docs including my 2018 Turbo Tax file and the printed pdf. I know I can order copies from the IRS and the state, but the question is do I even need them when filing 2019 this year?  Is there any information I need to pull from 2018?

If are planning on e-filing, the IRS requires your 2018 AGI to verify your identity. If you are paper-filing your return then you will not need your AGI since your return will be manually processed. Having your previous years return may be beneficial depending on the complexity of your return and if the method you are using to file asks for information from the previous year.

If you used TurboTax last year, you can access your return by logging in using the same TurboTax account that you used in 2018. Please follow the steps provided below.

1. Go to Tax Home in the left menu.

2. Under Your tax returns & documents, go to Download/print return (PDF) (select Show if not visible).

You can also get your AGI from last year by ordering a free transcript of your 2018 return or purchasing a full copy from the IRS. Please see below for more information.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

See this TurboTax support FAQ for accessing prior year online tax returns - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/01/270...

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.

Or go to this IRS website for free federal tax return transcripts - https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

For a fee of $50 you can get a complete federal tax return from the IRS by completing Form 4506 - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4506.pdf
