The years you mentioned are not available from Intuit nor any other authorized reseller.

You might be able to find the CD versions on an auction (or similar) site from a private party but it is unlikely that you will be able to get the requisite updates.

You can always download the forms and prepare them manually, but if you did not file at all for those years, you might want to consult with a tax professional.

@donnamarie64550 - you can probably find them on ebay

@tagteam while I agree that the software is subject to the final updates, that far back may have still been the time when there was one update sent out on a CD; i can't remember.... it's not like today where updates occur each week via the internet....

If I recall correctly, Intuit offered update CDs to those users who were unable to download updates at all or had dial-up service. I am unsure of which years, however, but I believe they would cover 2004-2006.

Regardless, it is now too late (from everything I have read) to get online updates for the years in the original post and finding the years complete with install and update CDs would seemingly be rather difficult.

The OP would not only need updates. She would also need the California state program. By 2004 state updates were being distributed as downloads within the TurboTax software. I'm sure those state downloads are no longer available.

For 2004 and several years before that, update CDs were available on request. I don't know about 2005 and later.

Even if updated software for the years in question could somehow be obtained, it might not run in any current version of Windows.

The bottom line is that usable federal and state TurboTax software for 2004, 2005, and 2006 is simply not available.

@rjs -  finding the disks on ebay is easy - incredible how many are for sale for 2004-2005, but I think you hit the nail on the head: they are unlikely to run on the current Windows versions...... -

@donnamarie64550 And....your post says you are "looking to help someone."     What exactly are you trying to help someone else do?   If that someone has the idea that they can file tax returns for those years to get a refund ---it is years too late.   Any refunds for tax years earlier than 2018 have been forfeited long ago.   But if the person owes tax, the IRS still wants to be paid---with penalties and interest.

Depending on what the issue really is, the best help you might give is the advice to seek paid professional tax help if you are trying to help someone who has not filed tax returns in many years.
