If you make less than 12,000 a year are you required to file taxes?

Depends ... if you are single and  that is all from  wages reported  on a W-2 then you would not be required to file however you may want to file if you had any federal/state withholding and/or you qualify for a  refundable credit.

Depends what kind of income you have, W2, 1099Misc etc.  If it's only W2 you don't have to file except to get back any withholding taken out.  1099Misc or self employment income you have to file no matter how small.
