The only way to do 2018 tax with TurboTax now (after Oct 15, 2019)  is to purchase the 2018 software for a Windows or Mac computer and print and mail the return.

You can purchase 2018 here:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

Or go to a tax professional in your area.

What version of Turbo Tax are you using?  Online or Desktop?  Are you trying to get back to your 2018 tax return to obtain your AGI?

If your tax return continues to be rejected with the 2018 AGI then enter a 0 (zero) for the AGI and e-file again.

If this is also rejected then you will have to print and mail the tax return.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for printing a tax return for mailing - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/printing/help/how-do-i-print-and-mail-my-return-in-turbotax-online...

Rejected with correct agi

Hello, I'm in the State WV and My AGI for 2018 is getting rejected as well. Its correct and its getting rejected. I'm getting so frustrated because I do not want to do them by mail. I don't have a printer to print them off. I've called the IRS and they are going to send me the AGI but I have it right in front of me so I know it's correct. Any suggestions to what I can do? Thank you!

If your 2018 AGI was correctly input into your 2019 return and you are getting rejected, you will unfortunately have to file a paper return,

To double check your 2018 AGI is correct follow these steps while in TurboTax:

  1. Select File from the left hand side of your screen,
  2. Complete Step 1 and 2 if you haven’t already done so, then go to Step 3.
  3. When getting to the Let’s get ready to e-file screen after selecting Step 3, select I want to e-file before you continue.
  4. Follow the online instructions. When prompted, put in your exact 2018 AGI.
  5. Continue through the screens until you’ve re-transmitted your return.

you can try $0.   that sometimes works but not always.   if the IRS won't accept your return for AGI reasons, there is nothing TT can do.   It will have to be mailed.  Follow TT mailing instructions and use a method where they can be tracked or you get proof of delivery.      some stores like Fedex, Office Max/Depot, etc offer the ability to print out your return. you'll need to save it to a flash drive as a PDF.  - in TT select only copies for filing.  Maybe some libraries offer the same service.   since this is hit or miss, call first.

The IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud.

You can find your 2018 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) by:

  • Looking at line 7 on page 2 of your 2018 Form 1040; or
  • You can request a transcript of your 2018 tax return from the IRS to ensure you have the right number. You can request your transcript online at the following link: Get Transcript

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number.  If you:

  • Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.
  • Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).
  • Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.
  • Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2018 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter 0 for one of you).

Unfortunately, without the correct number or a match to the IRS system, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.
