Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing

I never received my income taxes and I have contacted TurboTax only to be told that they couldn't do anything

Turbo tax claimed to have sent a check to me . My refund was supposed to be direct deposited but my bank denied it. So I have not received a check from IRS or turbo tax. And I've reached out to customer service and was told that I received a check in the mail. So I followed the Freud department's directions only to be told that I didn't submit everything in a timely manner. A check was sent in April and it's September and I have yet to get a check. Someone is responsible for that and I have already contacted the better business bureau along with some other steps. I'd like my check sent to me. I've recently moved and tried to tell customer service my new address and I received nothing but havoc from there agent. Either I get a check or I'm about to open a civil suit against turbo tax.

Yes turbo tax was supposed to take the money out of my refund. I've spoke to the IRS and it was direct deposited in April, but I've tried calling turbo tax and was told a cashier check was sent to me from turbo tax in April. Either way I've not received my refund and I have been very patient about the situation. But a new year is about to take place and I haven't received last year yet. I have an appointment with a lawyer Wednesday and I am opening a civil suit against turbo tax because I want my money

If you chose to have your fees deducted from your federal refund, but entered wrong or closed bank account information for your direct deposit, you are going to have an aggravating, frustrating situation.  Your refund will go back to the third party bank. The third party bank might issue and mail you a check, or they might send your refund back to the IRS and then you will have to wait for the IRS to mail you a check.

If the third party bank mails the check, it will come in a plain envelope via first class mail so make sure you open all mail and do not assume anything is junk mail without opening it.  While you are waiting, make sure that the address you entered on your tax return is correct, or your problem will be even worse.

When you choose “refund processing” your refund goes FIRST  from the IRS to the third party bank.  Then the bank takes your fees out of your refund and sends the rest of the refund to you
