I haven't filed my taxes in 2 years because I have lost all my w2s. I have my w2 for the year of 2019 but what should i do for the years 2017 and 2018?

You should contact your past employers and beg them to provide  replacement copies of the W-2's you lost.

The other things you can do are to get wage and income transcripts from the IRS--those will show only the income reported to the IRS by employers for federal purposes--they will not show any state withholding information for state tax return purposes.

Or for a fee of $86 each you can get copies of W-2's from Social Security.

Going forward -- learn this costly lesson and keep track of your W-2's and file timely tax returns

When you get the W-2"s

To file a return for a prior tax year

If you need to prepare a return for 2016, 2017, or 2018 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign,  and mail the return(s)

Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Note:  The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac.  It cannot be used on a mobile device.
