I have heard I can file for an extension to pay my owed 2019 federal taxes past July 15, 2020. How do I do this?

An extension allows you to extend the time to file. Not to pay. The payment must be made by 07/15/20 in order to avoid penalties and interest. Here are some options on payments to the IRS.

 

Do file an extension. Most states accept federal extension as their own.
