Box 19 on a W2? What does box 19 say? Some things in box 19 need to be moved to box 14. What is the error message?
I have two w-2's from the same employer. Both are duplicate of the same except for boxes 18-20. One the second W-2, box 18 is empty and box 19 has an amount that is different then the first W-2. Also the locality name/descriptions are different. Turbo is asking me to fix box 19 for the second w-2.
How do I fix Box 19 because it keeps taking me back to fix the amount but I am entering the amount correct?
If the EIN number is the same and you work in more than 1 state or city, sometimes they will give you another W2 with the extra state information on it and the top part the same or not filled in. If this is the case, list one W-2 but include both state or local taxes on it. It will let you type in more than one line for boxes 15-20. Don't add the boxes together.
My W-2 is correct - Box 19 is correct. Why is turbotax not letting me file electronically? There is nothing wrong with my W-2.
Box 19 reports the total amount of taxes withheld from your paychecks for local income taxes. What state are you filing in?
OHIO
I have used Turbotax for years. Never had this problem. Always had an amount in box 19 for OHIO.
Box 19 is for your locality within Ohio, not for your state. Make sure that you have entered your locality into box 20 correctly and that box 18 has the total amount that you earned in the part of Ohio where you lived. The amount in box 19 is the amount of tax paid to your local area.
And, as I'm sure you know, the information in these boxes generates the regional tax form that you need to file for the region you live in. It is also possible that some of the regional tax forms aren't ready yet (although I think that they all are).
Thank you for the reply. Box 18 does not have an amount as it never did in previous years. Box 19 has the Local income tax. Box 20 has the city and state with number to the right side. There is no logical reason as to why turbotax is preventing me from filing. These are the boxes I've had every year on my W-2. Box 18 has never had an amount.
If your employer leaves box 18 empty it is their way of saying "Box 18 is the same as Box 16". So copy the amount from box 16 into box 18 and it should solve your problem.
