If you have not paid for the tax return or registered the tax return, you can use Clear and Start Over.

Clear and Start Over will wipe all the data you have already entered. You will be starting over from scratch.

To Clear and Start Over in TurboTax Online:

  • You should be signed in and working in TurboTax Online
  • In the left-hand black menu, click on Tax Tools
  • Then choose Clear and Start Over.

TurboTax defaults to the edition that you were last using. You will change the edition in the first couple of screens.

If the Clear and Start Over does not work for you, you will need to call Customer Support to see if there is anything they can do for you.

My business is closed due to ill health. I see you have charged me to renew
Turbo Tax ($404.06). Please cancel this order.

First, here's to stop your Advantage membership (annual subscription):

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1901052-how-do-i-cancel-my-turbotax-advantage-subscription

And here's an online refund request form.  Submit it within 60 days of having received your product.

https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/forms/refund-request.jsp

If you have any problems with the refund form, here's how to reach TurboTax Support by phone:

If you are an Advantage member, log into your Advantage account and scroll down past the FAQ links.  Near the bottom of the page you should find a special Advantage phone number to directly contact Customer Support.

If you are not an Advantage member, use the form at the link below to schedule a call back, or it may provide a number.  Hours are 5AM-9PM Pacific (8AM-12 Midnight Eastern) 7 days/week.

How do I cancel my order, I did not realize the wrong option was selected. I do not want the live version.

I did NOT select the Live edition. I. DID. NOT. I specifically chose the Deluxe version which I need for self employment reporting. I was NOT previously signed in to the Live edition so that it 'defaulted to the version I was previously using'. ABSOLUTELY NOT. It didn't even exist the last time I used TurboTax. The interface makes it look like live help is available as an opt-in, but since it was NOOOOOTTTT the version I selected when I signed in, I didn't know to investigate the bait and switch before spending the entire day completing my return. It is NOT made clear that you have been routed to a Live edition for help you didn't ask for at a much higher price, which you have NOT specifically agreed to. Then when I go to download and print my return (I'm not filing through TurboTax), it demands $180 or I'll be forced to erase my return and start over??? COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. If I have to start over, it won't be on TurboTax! FIX. THIS.

@REALLY REALLY PISSED Using the TurboTax online editions and you are reporting self-employment income and expenses, the Deluxe edition cannot be used.  The TurboTax Self-Employed edition must be used.

The SE edition is $120 with the state program an additional $50.  See this TurboTax website for the online editions - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/

You need to contact TurboTax support for any account problems.  Use the key words Billing Issues

@REALLY REALLY PISSED Slow down.   For one thing you cannot use online Deluxe if you have self-employment income.   If you are self-employed you need to prepare a Schedule C for your business expenses.  Online Deluxe cannot do that---only online Self-Employed can prepare the Schedule C.   You do not have to use "Live"---you can downgrade from Live and use "regular" online Self-Employed:

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/downgrading/help/how-do-i-remove-turbotax-live/00/27312

Online Self-Employed is $120, and the state return (if you are preparing a state return) is an additional $50.

How can I see my TurboTax  fees?

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2565973-how-do-i-review-my-fees-in-turbotax-online

If you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund it adds a $39.99 ($45.99 in CA) refund processing fee.  If you pay upfront you avoid that extra fee.

You can see if you qualify to switch to Free File:

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY?  I WANT THE FREE EDITION

The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now.  Thanks to the new tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's.  Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition.  Using the standard deduction instead of itemizing does NOT mean you will not need any of those schedules.https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4511011-what-happened-to-the-1040a-and-1040ez   If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any of those three schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version.   The Free Edition cannot be used for self-employment income, investment income, rental income or a student loan interest deduction,

https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-1040

If you qualify to use it, there is another full-featured free version of the software:

Try Free File:

You qualify if your income was $39,000 or less, or $72,000 or less if active duty military, or if you qualify for Earned Income Credit

https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1900583-what-is-turbotax-free-file-program

Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free

https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/

If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons:

How do I cancel my order, I did not realize the wrong option was selected. I do not want the live version.

This was not pointed out in the version selection process. I logged in to my account, which has existed for several years, and followed the prompts to enter current data. I had both W2 and a schedule C, everything looked like it did in years past and there was NO prompt or pause in the action where TurboTax points out that BY THE WAY, although you selected the Deluxe version as it looks like what you need and THEN are prompted to log in, if you need this schedule C as in past years, you will now need to switch to the $120 version and agree to the price before proceeding. And to reiterate, AT NO TIME was there a presentation of or agreement to the 'Live' version at yet another $60. This wasn't me just giving it a shot to see if I could complete my return without help and then ask for a downgrade to the non-Live version - I forward my return to my long-time CPA for his review and filing, so at no time did I require or intend to purchase the Live version. So had there been ANY INDICATION WHATSOEVER that I was being switched to the Live version - the prices for which are not shown in the selection process when the choice you ACTUALLY make is for the self-completed version - I would have stopped and gotten it corrected before investing a day's work.

How do I cancel my order, I did not realize the wrong option was selected. I do not want the live version.

@REALLY REALLY PISSED Another thing you should be aware of is that there is no difference in the fee when you print and mail your return----the fee is the same whether you e-file or file by mail   -- you mentioned something about "not filing through TurboTax..."   --- that does not affect your fee.  The fee is for using the software.

If you are not able to switch to Free File, the CD/download software can provide all the schedules and forms you need even if you use Deluxe.   The desktop software has all the forms and schedules in every version, and just gives you more help in the higher versions.

@REALLY REALLY PISSED And....Self-Employed Live is $200 and an additional fee for state---so the fee of $180 you are complaining about is not the fee for online Self-Employed.   We cannot see your account or your return, but it does not sound like you are using Live, even inadvertently.

Deluxe with LIVE is $120 plus state 55 is $175 plus tax.  You can enter self employment income into Deluxe but if you have any expenses you need to upgrade to the Self Employed version.

I'm aware there is no difference in the price for printing vs. online filing, thanks. I have used TurboTax for years. The front end of the interface has changed and leads to being switched to a more expensive version without express consent, with the so-called 'opt out' being that you erase and start your return over, whether online or with the CDs.

How do I cancel my order, I did not realize the wrong option was selected. I do not want the live version.

Thanks for the info, but the problem, as explained in my post, was that after making the Deluxe selection which was what I have used in years past, it links directly to the login screen and then switched me to Self-Employed Live with no notice until the file/print page. Since the Live versions are in a tab behind the self-filled versions on the home page, the prices for Live are not in view. The Live logo DOES appear when logged in, but it looks like an ad for an opt-in, on-demand service. There is no notification or agreement that one has simply been switched to a $180 product.

No, the Desktop CD/Download program works different and you don't have to upgrade to a higher version to fill out Schedule C.  You can use Deluxe.  And you can not add LIVE to the Desktop program.   LIVE is only available for online returns.

Hey, did you accidentally end up in the Online web version but wanted to use the Desktop Deluxe CD?

You can move your Online file to the Desktop program and continue without paying for Online or needing to reenter your info.

To continue in the desktop version see this…….

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/choosing-a-product/help/how-do-i-switch-from-turbotax-online-to-th...

After you get the program installed the first thing to do before you open your tax return .tax file is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to FILE - NEW).

You can buy the CD/Download here,
