Home Energy Improvement Credit

I've entered amounts for home energy improvements, but it is showing as 0 Home Energy Credit Summary page.

I've answered:

  • Yes we made improvements
  • Yes we live in the same house
  • House in in the US
  • House is our main house
  • Improvements weren't related to construction
  • We made no improvements prior to 2108
  • We did not receive a credit in a prior year
  • We do not have a carryover

I don't know why the improvements are being disallowed.

Thanks, that's interesting.  I wonder why TurboTax 2018 still has it in it.

The same IRS Form 5695 Residential Energy Credit is used for the Residential Energy Efficient Property
Credit as was used for the Nonbusiness energy property credit.  So I assume that is the reason.

Right you are.  The form shown in TurboTax 2018 has items that were on the 2017 IRS Form 5695, but aren't on the 2018 one.  Can't say that does much for my confidence level, although at least it didn't let me take the credits.  Thanks for your quick and informative help.

The non business energy property tax credits have been retroactively extended through end of 2021 per Jan 2021 update on energystar.gov website.  Turbo tax software needs to updated immediately in order to claim this credit for qualified installations made in 2020.  Thank you, Marc Oberheide

It depends on what Turbo Tax program you are using. I logged into Turbo Tax online and was able to access this feature. This feature is fully functional within the online version.
