The current TurboTax programs are only for tax year 2019, so any questions asked concerning health insurance will be for 2019.

On a federal tax return there is no requirement for having health insurance.  Unless you received health insurance through one of the state Marketplace Exchanges and received a Form 1095-A.  Then the Form 1095-A has to be entered on the federal return.

To enter your Form 1095-A -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Deductions and Credits
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Medical
  • On Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A), click the start or update button

Or enter 1095-a in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to 1095-a

Then answer yes to the question for having health insurance in 2018 since you had MassHealth.

Thank you for the screenshot.  Then in this case the answer should be NO since MassHealth is the state Medicaid program and would not be a Marketplace plan.

Heath Insurance

The answer is YES since MassHealth is the same as Mass Health Connector.
