Head of Household Confusion

I divorced in 2017,  The home we lived in is still owned by both myself and exwife.  She files head of houshold for that house and makes mortgage payments. She lives in the home with our 2 kids.  I rent a home- can I file Head of Houshold for the rental or is it just for the House we own together?  We each claim 1 dependent child.  Thank you

Assuming each of you is unmarried and a qualifying child lives with each and each pays more than half the cost of each of your households then each parent can file Head of Household.

you can not claim head of household.  the requirement is that a dependent lived in YOUR rental home for more than half the year.  the release of the child's exemption by the custodial parent is ignored (doesn't change this requirement).
