Error 70001

I have downloaded and reinstalled Turbo Tax 2024 many times, and have tried everything the support people told me to.  First I get a message that suggests restarting my computer.  After three restarts with no effect I clicked Restart Later.  Then I get Error 70001 "Turbo Tax is already running under another account.  Switch users and run Turbo Tax from the other account to continue."  My computer is running Windows 11 fully updated.  I do not have another account.  I've spent hours on the phone with tech support.  Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I am having the same problem.  I've tried everything.  I've found an FAQ that basically said to run as administrator, put TT as exempt from all security software, etc. etc.  Did all that. No change. Tried the restart modem & router & laptop. No change. Uninstalled & reinstalled with a restart in between. No change.

Last week I ran TT just fine.  As of yesterday, I only get the Error 70001 message.  

The Intuit help line cuts you off if you go thru the menu and answer 'no' to getting a link to download the software. There is no other option for help. 

I believe I can still get my credit card to reverse my charge for this software, which seems the only option since it doesn't work on my very current, properly hardware configured PC running Windows 11 with all software and hardware up to date  I think I will never be using Turbo Tax again...after many many years of doing so.

A solution that worked for another user a few years ago was to boot up the computer in Safe Mode (you can find the instructions online), launch TurboTax, then exit Safe Mode and restart TurboTax normally.  Here's the old thread:

I tried everything on the attached list. No joy.

So I decided to roll the last Windows update back to the previous version and that worked. Turbo Tax now working fine. Might be worth adding to the list.

Yes.  No solution works for me.  I have probably reboot the laptop 20+ times.

I downloaded a new copy of TurboTax 2024 and it is now working.  Intuit must have found out what was wrong.

Thanks for the reply.  No. It is not fixing the issue even after I download the software from its site.  I am referring to the 2024 Premier version.

Please try these steps:

1. Log off of TurboTax
2. Shut down you computer and wait a full minute
3. Power on your computer
4. Check your internet connection
5. Re start Turbo Tax
6. If this doesn't work, try reinstalling the software.
7. As a last resort, re-install under a different user name and re-post the return.

After so many hours searching for the solution.  I finally find out my problem that caused the error 70001.

I open the Windows "Event Viewer" and scroll down to "Windows Logs", and click the "Application".  

From there I am seeing the list of application events recorded in there.  I scroll down to the "Error" about the time the 70001 error popup by TurboTax. 

The error message indicate that the MSVCP140.dll has problem. ( I believe it is a old version).

So I need to replace the .dll with newer version.  There is a discussion on the .dll on Microsoft community:

 I followed the instructions (install x86 and x84 library and replaced the old MSVCP140.dll.  Restart my laptop.  And cross my finger to launch the TurboTax 2024 with my eyes closed.  IT works!!!  I probably spent more than 10 hours on this issue over the past 5 days.

I am having the same issue.  According to instructions in another thread I unistalled Turbotax 2024, performed a force uninstallation and completely cleared my hard disk on any Turbotax or Intuit files in the "Program File" folder, in the Program Files (x86) folder, and in the "users" folder.  With Windows file explorer I have made all hidden files visible and deleted those as well.  I powered down the computer, turned off the internet moden, and the router.   

After that I re-installed TurboTax 2024 and got the same error.  Windows Task Manager Indicates that TurboTax.exe and IntuitUpdater.exe are suspended.  When I clicked to find the file location nothing was indicated.  I re-uninstalled TurboTax 2024 and I see those two suspended files still listed in the Detail Section of the processes that are running.  I used the elevated CMD command to kill those processes but CMD says that they cannot be deleted.   Please provide instructions.  Thank you.

My issue turned out to be firewall related.  I uninstalled, I disabled my firewall, installed TT, then set my firewall to allow TT app, then turned firewall back on, and it appears to work fine.  No more 70001 errors

I have had exactly the same situation with you. I could not open TT, nor activate it at all. I have spent days without solution at this moment.

I feel the same, I have been using TT about 20 years. I used to buy with CD and this year no CD available. I have to download, I could not open it at all, finally open it through troubleshoot compatibility and now had error 70001. I only have ONE account, how to switch the user.
