Does Turbotax file your state taxes as well as your federal?
Yes, the program can do so but Online versions incur a separate charge for state returns.
Some desktop versions include a free state.
as you go through to the filing section you must select e-file for both the federal and state(s). the state(s) cannot be e-file if the federal isn't. At the end you must click on the transmit button/link to actually e-file them. Failure to do that and the return(s) is(are) never filed. Within a day or two you receive an email for each federal and state return saying whether the transmission was successful or not. if not, the return has not been filed. If transmission is successful there is a second e-mail that will either say accepted or rejected. rejected means it hasn't been filed.
