Before you make that change----in order to file as a qualified widower-----that means you are using that filing status because your spouse passed away in either 2018 or 2019---and that you still have at least one dependent child to claim on your tax return.   Is that the case?

If your spouse passed away in 2020---you can file a joint return.    If your spouse passed away in an earlier year, if you do not have a dependent child, then you do file Single.

IF you need to change your status to qualified widower before you file the return, then click on Add a State to get back into the software, go to My Info and click your name to edit your filing status by answering the questions again----but you will have to enter a dependent or you will not be able to file a qualified widower.
