Tax Year Prior to 2020: 1095-A paying back the advanced premium tax credit

I had health insurance through my employer all of 2018. However, I still received a 1095-A for 2018, indicating that I had received an APTC (Advanced Premium Tax Credit) for the month of January. I discovered that since I had used the marketplace in 2017, and did not updated the marketplace in the new year, I was automatically re-enrolled, and they sent at APTC to Ambetter on my behalf, even though I did not renew with this insurance company.

So, since I did not pay ambetter my portion of the monthly premiums in January (since I had other employer insurance), would I still have to reconcile the APTC with the IRS?

Yes, you will need to either reconcile it, or try to get a corrected 1095-A form.  Keep in mind, if you actually benefited from the Advanced Premium Tax Credit (meaning it was credited to you, whether or not you used it)  they may not correct it.   But, it might be worth trying.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

See this TurboTax support FAQ for accessing prior year online tax returns - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/01/270...

If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created.  TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
