If you are a non-married couple who live together then only one of you can claim the child(ren) and the one not claiming the child does not enter anything at all on their tax return about the child.
For tax purposes since you're not married yet, you cannot file jointly. This means only one of you can claim your son as a dependent. That person gets all of the benefits of claiming him that they qualify for (head of household, child tax credit, earned income credit, child care credit). These benefits cannot be split.
