I and wife have been working in USA on H1B for last few years. Last year starting April wife moved to Canada on a work visa. I continued working in USA. What is the best way to do taxes for both the countries?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
It depends. For US tax purposes, you may file Married Filing Jointly by treating your non-resident wife as a US resident for tax reporting purposes.
Please refer to the Canadian TurboTax support site for questions on how to complete the Canadian tax return.
Thanks. Do you suggest to file independently or file through single cross boarder country CPA? Dont know if there are any complications in case of filing independently. Does turbotax file for both the countries together? How should I go about it?
No, TurboTax US and TurboTax Canada are separate, so they are filed independently.
