Question about 1099-NEC

2 years ago I was fired without notice from a job. A week before I was fired I made several purchases on the company card that were necessary for me to keep working. I made these not knowing I was going to be fired.

Fast forward to today. I received a 1099-NEC in the amount of these purchases as income to me. Despite the fact that I had not utilized what was purchased for personal use.

Can they do this?
