You can click here to jump directly to the QBI deduction which is automatically calculated in TurboTax Online. If you are Ctrl+F searching for QBI in the PDF copy of your tax return, note that you are looking for Form 8995.
If you're still not qualifying, also note that there are some exclusions to QBI; you should check that your income does not fall into one of these categories. From the Turbotax knowledge article, "What's the Qualified Business Income (QBI) deduction?":
- Income generated outside the United States
- Investment income
- W-2 compensation paid to an S corporation owner
- Guaranteed payments to a partner
- Income from REITs, publicly traded partnerships, and qualified cooperatives (these entities may qualify for a 20% deduction under a different set of rules, the explanation of which is beyond the scope of this article)
Additionally,
Some types of service businesses (SSTBs) are disqualified once the taxable income on the return exceeds $247,300 ($494,600 if filing jointly). At higher income levels, the deduction for SSTBs is reduced and in some cases, eliminated.
For the purposes of the QBI deduction, an SSTB is defined as any trade or business that performs services in the fields of:
- Accounting
- Actuarial science
- Athletics
- Consulting
- Health
- Law
- Performing arts
- Financial services
- Brokerage services (including investment management and investing, trading, or dealing in securities, commodities, or partnership interests)

Our Personal Income is below the max for Jointly Filed returns, however my spouse's pass through LLC shows zero QBI on Turbo Tax's Form 8995 on line 1. I'm using desktop Home & Business and there is no way to enter info for Form 8995, nor are there any questions/answers available in Help Center.
Form 8995 is generated automatically in TurboTax upon entering qualified business income, such as Schedule C, E, or K-1, rather than being filled out directly. Users can verify that the form was generated by accessing "Forms" (Desktop) or "Tax Tools" > "Tools" > "View Tax Summary" (Online).
Check your entries for the K-1 and any other business schedules to confirm that your answers to the questions did not include anything that would exclude you from the Qualified Business Income Deduction. The entries for the business forms have follow-up questions that help determine whether the QBI Deduction applies.
Some other users have found that clicking the QuickZoom at the top of the QBI Deduction Summary worksheet for Form 8995 caused the form to populate, or that viewing the form in Forms Mode caused it to populate. The information on the actual form may explain why it's not included.
You can use Form 8995 if your 2025 total taxable income (before the qualified business income deduction) is less than $197,300 ($394,600 for joint filers) and you're not a patron of an agricultural or horticultural cooperative. Otherwise, you’ll use the longer Form 8995-A.
See this tax tips article for more information about Form 8995.
None of this works or is helpful for Home & Business Desktop. I can see Form 8995 and what is populated (incorrectly) but there are no questions that link to Line 1(c) "Qualified business income or (loss)." This line shows "0." There is also no way to edit Form 8995 directly.
I have no K-1 in my return. Schedule C shows a Net Profit 0f $9,068 on Line 31, and Schedule 1 shows it on Line 3.
I suspect that TurboTax is excluding ALL SSTB income, even though Total Taxable Income is below the Joint Return max allowable for the Qualified Business Income Deduction.
I may have identified the problem with QBI not transferring to the QBI Deduction Worksheet.
The "Qualified Business Income Deduction Smart Worksheet" in Schedule C is showing the correct "Allowable QBI after loss limits" on Line 4c, but Line 5a (next line - "Total self-employed deductions") transposes the same exact amount ("Allowable QBI"), resulting in Line 5b, "Schedule C profit (loss) after S.E. deductions" to equal zero. All of the lines after 5b, therefore, show 0.
The actual S.E. deduction amount from Schedule SE Line 13, "Deduction for one-half of self employment tax" has not transferred to Line 5a.
We have tested QBI for Schedule C but are unable to reproduce the experience you have seen. It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2025" file to test this issue further.
If you would be willing to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information, please follow these instructions:
In TurboTax Desktop, open your return and go to Online in the TurboTax header. (On a Mac computer, choose Share or Help.)
We will then be able to see the same experience you are having. If we are able to determine the cause, we'll reply here and possibly provide you with a resolution.
@PatriciaV , thank you for your reply. I'm absolutely willing to send this diagnostic file, except I've spent most of the morning trying to figure out how, using the instructions above. I'm using a Mac Desktop version of Home & Business. When I select "Share" in the Turbotax menu, I do not see an option for "Send tax file to agent." The actual turbotax app doesn't show an option for this. I'm logged in online, but it keeps wanting me to purchase turbotax and start a new filing. Any ideas on how I can export/send the file?
To share your diagnostic code using a Mac computer:
@MonikaK1 Thank you! Token 193514567009104-97374229.
@MonikaK1 The website kept removing the token number. Did you get it? If not, how do I send it without it being stripped?
Yes, our Leads were able to find it. Could you please let me know which states you have in the file? I will need to have the states on my program in order to open the file.
@MonikaK1 So sorry, but I may have just discovered that the healthcare expenses may have zeroed out QBI. Hope I didn't send you on a wild goose chase, but it looks like I may have.
Can you confirm that your medical expense (insurance?) wiped our your QBI and that the issue is resolved?
Thank you for confirming in another thread. Glad it worked out.
